Structure of the NYC Public School System
The City is divided into 10 geographic Regions. Within each Region are 2-4 Community School Districts. Each school's principal receives District-and Region-wide support and supervision via the administrative structure pictured below.
Most information and services for parents are provided at the Regional level, through the Learning Support Center and Parent Support Office. Click here for an interactive map to determine what Region and District your child's school is in.
My address has changed how do I find my child's new school?
For elementary school and middle school,admissions are determined by geographic zone. Click here for an interactive map where you can enter your current address.
For example, in the map pictured above, find the School Zone (outlined in red) where your home is located; then, find the school(s) within your Zone. An elementary-school-aged child residing at the address pictured, for example, would be in Zone 9 and would attend PS 009 Sarah Anderson.

I have a question for the Department of Education, whom should I contact?
Most questions can be directed to your Regional Learning Support Center (LSC). Click here for a list of LSC phone numbers. (Note that you will need to know which region your child's school is in; for an interactive map, click here).
Each school also has a Parent Coordinator, who is responsible for reaching out to parents in the community. Contact your child's school to determine who your Parent Coordinator is.
Special Education
Questions about placement, assessment, oversight, hearings, and most other special education matters may be directed to your Regional Chairperson of the Committee on Special Education (CSEs). (Click here for a list of contacts).
Preschool special education evaluations are handled by the Regional Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSEs). (Click here for a list of contacts).
If you are concerned that mandated services are not being delivered at school, you may wish to contact your Regional Administrator of Special Education (RASE).
