Emergency Rent Assistance (Jiggets/FEPS)
Jiggets is rent assistance for welfare recipients with children. Jiggets is the name of a court
case. The case was brought to get the government to help people pay their rent. The Court ordered New
York State to give some families more money towards their rent. This is called Jiggets relief. Jiggets
rent payments are temporary and could end at any time.
FEPS is a new program that is replacing the old Jiggetts housing assistance program. It provides eligible people with an amount of money to supplement their current housing grant. One cannot apply for FEPS alone and must apply through an authorized preparer.
