The Legal Aid Society Welcomes 186 Summer Interns

Seymour W. James Jr., the Attorney-in-Chief, welcomed 186 summer interns yesterday during an orientation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. He promised them an exciting summer , working closely with Legal Aid Society attorneys from the Civil, Criminal, and Juvenile Rights Practices on a variety of projects.

The program was both upbeat and inspirational with managers and union leadership sharing stories of their experiences and how a Legal Aid internship changed the course of their careers. Tina Luongo, Legal Aid's Chief Defender, said her internship in the Prisoners' Rights Project while a law student convinced her that being a public defender was her life's role. "It changed my life," she said.

Also participating in the orientation were Legal Aid Chairman Richard J. Davis; President Blaine V. (Fin) Fogg; Adriene Holder, Attorney-In-Charge of the Civil Practice; Dawne Mitchell, Attorney-In-Charge of the Bronx Office of the Juvenile Rights Practice; Femi Disu-Oakley, Director of Diversity and Inclusion; Bharati Narumanchi, Director of Recruitment; Jason Wu, representing the ALAA LGBTQ Caucus; Adan Soltren, representing the ALAA ACLA Caucus; Allan Fox, Chief Human Resources Officer; Scott Rosenberg, General Counsel; and Louis Sartori, Director of the Pro Bono Program.
