The Legal Aid Society Mourns the Death of Judge Kaye

Seymour W. James, Attorney-in-Chief of The Legal Aid Society, issued the following statement regarding the passing of Judge Judith S. Kaye.

"The Legal Aid Society notes with great sorrow the passing of Judith S. Kaye, a brilliant jurist who gained national recognition for her leadership and innovative and creative reforms of the New York court system. She was responsible for ground breaking decisions and will always be remembered for her deep concern for children and families. She successfully forged consensus and her decisions were clear, rigorously reasoned and protective of the rights of the most vulnerable. The Legal Aid Society was honored to have Judge Kaye as a member of its Board of Directors from 1977 until 1983 when she was appointed the first woman to serve New York State's highest court by Governor Mario Cuomo."
