The Attorneys of Color Caucus at Legal Aid (ACLA) Summer Mentoring Program
FRIDAY, JUNE 23, 2017
LAS Interns, Staff and Supervisors all had a great time.

ACLA hosted its annual Kick- off Party for their Summer Mentoring Program event on Thursday June 15, at the UAW Region 9 Headquarters. This annual event continues to be a great networking opportunity for attorneys of color, interns and supervisors within the Legal Aid Society.

ACLA started the Summer Mentoring Program for law students of color in the summer of 2012. Today, scores of law students participate in the summer program in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island and Brooklyn. The program provides law interns of color with attorney mentors of color; helps prepare law interns for the LAS hiring process by hosting an interviewing and résumé assistance workshop; offers networking opportunities with other practicing attorneys and supervisors of color; offers “Shadow Days” where law interns can meet attorneys from different Practice areas; and offers a Brown Bag Lecture series with practicing attorneys of color. ACLA has hosted Brown Bag series that included Vince Warren from the Center for Constitutional Rights, David Loftis of the Innocence Project, and members of Central Park Five.
