Statement on USCIS Decision to Accept DACA Applications that were Previously Denied due to Mail Delays
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2017

Hasan Shafiqullah, Attorney-In-Charge of the Immigration Law Unit at The Legal Aid Society, released the below statement following the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) decision to accept Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewal applications that were previously rejected because of United States Postal Service delays.

“USCIS is making the right decision for our clients and others who complied with the renewal process and mailed in their applications well ahead of the October deadline. We are reviewing the guidelines released by USCIS last night, and plan to assist those impacted reapply in the comings days. Again, we urge Congress to pass a clean DREAM Act. Only with statutory protection will these young immigrants at last be safe.”
