Statement On Todays Rally At Trump Tower To Defend DACA
THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 2017

Hasan Shafiqullah, Attorney-In-Charge of the Immigration Law Unit at The Legal Aid Society, released the below statement today in support of the save Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) rally outside of Trump Tower in Manhattan.

“For the thousands that immigrated here as children or young teens on their own or with families in search of a better life, DACA has kept that dream alive. And for many of them, the United States is the only home they know.

DACA has allowed these individuals to flourish -- building families, attending school and holding jobs. They are our neighbors, classmates and colleagues.

Discontinuing DACA would upend 800,000 lives, and it would be contrary to America’s long history as a home for immigrants.

We urge the Trump Administration to not only keep the program intact, but to go further and support the DREAM Act and create a permanent pathway for dreamers to ultimately secure citizenship.”
