Statement from The Legal Aid Society’s Attorney-In-Chief, Seymour W. James Jr., on Public Defense Week
MONDAY, MARCH 13, 2017

For the past 141 years, The Legal Aid Society has led the defender community providing critical legal services to those without a voice in the courtroom. Our administrative staff, investigators, paralegals and attorneys are on the front lines day-in and day-out fighting to reform a broken criminal justice system, break the vicious cycles of poverty, and guarantee due process for our clients. Though Saturday officially marks the second National Public Defender Day, we celebrate our employees’ work every day because without their dedication, New York City would be a less fair and just place.
