Statement from The Legal Aid Society on Tonight’s Rent Guideline Board Vote
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 2017

Adriene Holder, Attorney-In-Charge of the Civil Practice at The Legal Aid Society, and former tenant member of the Rent Guidelines Board, released the following statement tonight responding to The New York City Rent Guidelines Board’s (NYCRGB) vote.

“Even though the Board decided against leveling the highest increase allowed per April’s preliminary vote, we still disagree with any hike.

Despite cries of unfairness and preferential treatment from the real-estate industry and their lobbyists, the previous Administration doled out sizable increases for twelve straight years – lining the pockets of landlords throughout the city.

Given this necessary context, any increase on the two million New Yorkers that reside in a rent-regulated unit is patently unjustified.”
