Statement from Legal Aid’s Rebecca Novick on U.S. House Vote to Repeal the Affordable Care Act
THURSDAY, MAY 04, 2017

Rebecca Novick, Director of The Legal Aid Society’s Health Law Unit, released the following statement today responding to the U.S. House of Representative’s vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“With today’s vote, House Republicans take us one step closer towards a disastrous overhaul that will wreak havoc on working class families, seniors and others who have historically suffered from a system that does not prioritize their health concerns.

The Affordable Care Act serves as a critical lifeline for millions of previously uninsured Americans finally connecting them with the necessary care. This repeal will undo that progress and put many vulnerable New Yorkers – including our clients – back in the incredulous position of having to choose between their health and well-being over other fundamental needs. Repeal is inhumane, cruel and counter to New York values of helping those who need it the most.”
