Statement From Legal Aid On Labor Day Holiday
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 05, 2017

The Legal Aid Society released the below statement today for the Labor Day holiday.

“This Labor Day is an opportunity for all to reflect on the invaluable contributions workers make every day on society. For our organization, the daily dedication from our staff to serving the city’s poorest has made New York a much more just and fair place.

Today is a time to also acknowledge the enormous role union labor has played in this city and around the country advancing welfare for all. We’re proud to be a union shop with the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys representing our lawyers and 1199 SEIU representing paralegals, socials workers and support staff.

We can take a moment as well today to recommit our efforts to fighting workplace injustices. Thanks to our Employment Law Unit, whose daily efforts ensure that immigrant workers are not exploited by wage theft; employers are complying with minimum wage laws; and vulnerable New Yorkers are not denied employment because of discrimination.”
