Statement from The Legal Aid Society on Executive Budget Funding for Immigrant Legal Services
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26, 2017

Adriene Holder, Attorney-In-Charge of the Civil Practice at The Legal Aid Society, released the following statement today responding to Mayor de Blasio’s executive budget announcement increasing legal service funding for local immigrant communities.

“Now more than ever, immigrant children, adults and families entangled in ICE’s dragnet need access to quality legal representation. The funding announced today solidifies access to counsel for New Yorkers languishing in immigration detention or battling against deportation. Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Mayor de Blasio set a bold example for other sanctuaries across the nation to model - we and our clients laud their leadership. Let this send a clear message to the Trump White House that New York City stands united and ready to defend.”
