Seymour W. James Jr., The Legal Aid Society’s Attorney-In-Chief, received the Robert L. Haig Award at The New York State Bar Association's spring meeting last week. The prestigious award is given to a long-standing member of the legal profession who has rendered distinguished public service.

Mr. James, a member of Legal Aid for more than 40 years, has been the Society’s Attorney-In-Chief since 2014. He previously led the Criminal Practice for nine years, and has also been deeply involved in various commissions and bar groups. Among his leadership roles, Mr. James served as President of The New York State Bar Association from 2012 to 2013 and the Queens County Bar Association from 2001 to 2002. Mr. James has also taught at CUNY Law School and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law Intensive Trial Advocacy Program.
