Sarah Kerr Participates in Panel on Solitary Confinement

Sarah Kerr, a Staff Attorney in the Prisoners' Rights Project of The Legal Aid Society, will be serving on a panel discussion on solitary confinement from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 31, at the St. Francis College Founders Hall at 182 Remsen Street in Brooklyn. The program is sponsored by the National Religious Campaign Against Torture and will include a screeing of the documentary: Solitary Confinement: Torture in your Backyard. Also serving on the panel will be Michael B. Mushlin, Professor of Law at Pace University and a former head of PRP, and Rabbi Rachel Kahn-Troster of Rabbis for Human Rights-North America. Rikers Island has increased its use of solitary confinement by 44 percent over the past two years, despite decreases in inmate population.
