WEDNESDAY, JULY 02, 2014

Richard Blum, a staff attorney in the Employment Law Unit, recently participated in two conferences in Shanghai, China with Chinese and U.S. labor and employment lawyers, organized by the U.S. Asia Law Institute at NYU.

The first conference focused on representing low-wage workers. Richard gave a presentation on representative actions, which do not yet exist in the Chinese legal system. At the second conference, Richard gave a short recitation of the development of the rights of LGBT people in the U.S. over the last thirty years. At the end of both conferences, the Chinese lawyers met among themselves and prepared reports on changes they would like to see in Chinese law and legal practice, drawing on presentations at the conferences.
