Prisoners' Rights Calls For More Mental Health Services At Rikers Island

Staff Attorney Sarah Kerr testified on the need for more mental health services at Rikers Island before the New York City Council Committee on Fire and Criminal Justice Services, the Committee on Mental Health, Developmental Disability, Alcoholism, Substance Abuse and Disability Services Oversight: Examination of Violence and the Provision of Mental Health and Medical Services in New York City Jails.

Ms. Kerr also testified on the amendment to the administrative code of the City of New York in relation to requiring the commissioner of the department of correction to post a monthly report on its website regarding punitive segregation statistics for city jails, including the use of solitary confinement.
