Seymour James, Attorney-in-Charge of the Criminal Practice of The Legal Aid Society, announced today that Peter Jones has been selected from among an excellent group of candidates to become the Attorney-in-Charge of the Bronx Criminal Defense office.

Peter, a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and Pace University School of Law, joined the Society in 1989 and distinguished himself as a Senior Staff Attorney trying a variety of felony cases. He served in this capacity until 2003, when he became a Supervising Attorney. As a Supervising Attorney, in addition to his complex responsibilities, Peter was an active participant in training both centrally and in the office. In July of 2012, Peter became the Acting Attorney-in-Charge of the office where he has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his short time in the position.

Peter is an instrumental part of the LAS team of lawyers, investigators and social workers that helped make the case for the State's case cap law and is working to demonstrate the need for additional investigators and social workers. He has given presentations on various legal topics and has become an important part of the Bronx office's community outreach effort.
