TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2016

On Saturday, May 21st, the Community Justice Unit participated in the 6th Annual Not in My Hood March and Resource Fair, a demonstration against senseless gun violence in Brooklyn.

The CJU was joined by several community partners including Gangstas Making Astronomical Community Change (GMACC) from East Flatbush, Operation H.O.O.D. from Coney Island and Save Our Streets from Bedford-Stuyvesant. The event, organized by East Flatbush Village and co-sponsored by City Councilman Jumaane Williams, began with a march through the East Flatbush neighborhood and culminated with a resource fair, featuring the Mobile Justice Unit at the busy hub of Church and Schnectady Avenue. A number of public officials, including Public Advocate Leticia James, were in attendance, along with leaders of the various Cure Violence organizations like Derrick Scott of Operation H.O.O.D and Shanduke McPhatter of GMACC.

Many young people participated in the event, providing music, dance, and entertainment as the crowd marched down Utica Ave, all with the uplifting message of peace in our city streets.
