Two union officials and three attorneys-in-charge of the New York City Legal Aid Society are among those named to a search committee to find a successor to outgoing Attorney-in-Chief Steven Banks.

The 12-member committee is being headed by the group's chair, Richard Davis, and its president, Blaine Fogg.

The search committee will consider both internal and external candidates for a replacement for Banks, who is leaving at the end of this month to become New York City's commissioner of human resources.

Davis has said the group hopes to install his successor by June.

Legal Aid Society board of directors' members on the committee are Tracy Richelle High of Sullivan & Cromwell; Alan Levine of Cooley; Pamela Miller of Arnold & Porter; and Bradley Ruskin of Proskauer Rose.

The leaders of two unions that represent Legal Aid Society employees are also on the search committee: President Deborah L. Wright of the UAW-affiliated Association of Legal Aid Attorneys and Neva Shillingford, executive vice president of Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union.

In addition, attorneys-in-charge Jojo Annobil of the Immigration Law Unit, Dawne Mitchell of the Bronx office of the Juvenile Rights Practice and Christopher Pisciotta of the Staten Island office of the Criminal Practice are on the committee, as is the society's chief human resources officer, Allan Fox.

Banks has been the chief administrator of the Legal Aid Society since 2004.
