The Legal Aid Society and the LGBTQ Committee of the New York City Bar Association sponsored a special training program June 7 in conjunction with Pride Month which drew more than 100 lawyers, students and advocates.

The event included a panel of 10 specialists including the Civil Practice's Richard Blum, a staff attorney in the Employment Law Unit; Diane La Gamma, a staff attorney in the Harlem Community Law Office; and Hasan Shafiqullah, a staff attorney in the Immigration Law Unit, who trained, discussed, and moderated the legal conflicts that transgender clients face navigating issues involving immigration, employment rights, and benefits. The Juvenile Rights Practice shared their cultural competency training which was included in the materials distributed.
