Legal Aid Will Assist Tenants If Rent Regulations Expire On Monday
FRIDAY, JUNE 12, 2015

The Legal Aid Society will assist tenants if rent regulations expire on Monday. The announcement was made at a press conference held by Public Advocate Letitia James with Adriene Holder, Attorney-in-Charge of the Civil Practice of The Legal Aid Society, and other advocates.

James said her office will work with Legal Aid and Legal Services NYC to help low-income New Yorkers.

"If the rent laws expire Monday, we want tenants to know that they will have legal protections and recourses to stay in their apartments," said James, who was joined at City Hall by approximately 30 lawyers and tenant advocates. "We know that there are too many landlords looking for any excuse to ... evict rent-regulated tenants and make a quick buck."
