Legal Aid Testifies Before NYC Council on Summons Courts
MONDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2014

Tina Luongo, Attorney-in-Charge of the Criminal Practice, and William Gibney, Director of the Criminal Practice Special Litigation Unit, testified before the New York City Council's Committee on Courts and Legal Services and Committee on Public Safety on the operations of the Summons Court in light of the plan to transfer substantial numbers of marijuana cases into the Summons Courts.

They discussed life-altering effects of pleading guilty and problems with warrants and plea by mail and recommended the decriminalization of many quality of life offenses and avoiding unnecessary warrants.
