Legal Aid Defenders Supported by Great Team Help Hundreds at Clean Slate
MONDAY, MAY 02, 2016

All levels of staff from Manhattan Criminal Defense turned out in full force Saturday to represent hundreds of New Yorkers at Clean Slate. Staff from other Legal Aid borough offices also participated.

Clean Slate is a project of the Manhattan District Attorney.

A mobile courtroom was set up at the Grand Street Settlement. People who had summonses for non-violent offenses spoke with Legal Aid lawyers and had their cases dismissed on the spot or were issued adjournments in contemplation of dismissal, meaning their cases will be tossed if they stay out of trouble for six months.

Staff from the Community Justice Unit spoke to people at the Society’s Mobile Justice Unit and provided Know Your Rights information.
