Legal Aid And Elected Officials Sponsor Workshops October 10 To Help Seniors and Disabled Individuals Apply for Rent Freeze

The Legal Aid Society and a number of elected officials are sponsoring one-day workshops on October 10 to help seniors and persons living with disabilities to fill out SCRIE (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exeption) and DRIE (Disability Rent Increase Exemption) applications to have their rent frozen.

The New York State Legislature changed the law so that more seniors and people living with disabilities are eligible to have their rents frozen by the SPRIE and DRIE programs.

SCRIE and DRIE Workshops will be held on Friday, October 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the following locations sponsored by the Society and elected officials:

  • Patterson Senior Center, 308 East 145th St, Bronx, N.Y. co-sponsored by NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito
  • The District Office of State Assemblymember Ron Kim at 136-20 38th Avenue, Flushing, in Suite 10A
  • The Office of NYC Public Advocate Leticia James at 1 Centre Street, 19th floor, Manhattan
  • The Office of State Assemblyman Keith Wright, NYS Office Building, 163 W. 125th Street, Manhattan
  • Greenwich House-Our Lady of Pompeii Senior Center, 25 Carmine Street, Manhattan, co-sponsored by State Senator Brad Hoylman, Congress Member Jerrold Nadler, Borough President Gale Brewer, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assemblymember Deborah Glick, Council Member Corey Johnson

The workshops are being held to help constituents fill out their SCRIE and DRIE applications and understand the new changes to the SCRIE program.
