LAS Co-Sponsors "All Together Now: Women Fighting State Violence" in Bushwick
MONDAY, AUGUST 29, 2016

Last Saturday, members of The Legal Aid Society's Exploitation Intervention Project (EIP) and Special Litigation Unit partnered with Yeah, That's What She Said (YTWSS), a woman-led art and activism collective, to host an all-day event called "All Together Now: Women Fighting State Violence."

Held at The Silent Barn, a volunteer-run event space in Bushwick, this gathering of neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family centered the voices of transgender women of color (TWoC), primarily those speaking to their experience with policing in New York City. The event developed in three parts: a writing and movement workshop for TWoC, a discussion about police harassment and violence against TWoC moderated by EIP's Aisha Lewis-McCoy, and a know-your-rights training led by Cynthia Conti-Cook of the Special Litigation Unit, and Abigail Swenstein and Aisha-Lewis McCoy of EIP.
