Juvenile Justice Information Exchange Features Day In The Life Of Legal Aid Staff Attorney

The Juvenile Justice Information Exchange recently featured a Day in the Life of Donna Henken, a Staff Attorney in The Legal Aid Society's Criminal Practice Adolescent Intervention and Diversion Program. Lawyers in that Legal Aid unit, working with social workers, represent children who are 13 through 15 years old and are charged as adults and accused of felony crimes. Their cases are heard in the adult Criminal Court rather than in Family Court. These children need the services and case resolutions that a Family Court Judge can order, but that a Criminal Court Judge cannot.
