Court Refuses to Reinstate President Trump's Executive Order
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 09, 2017

The Legal Aid Society released the following statement re the U.S. Court of Appeals refusal to reinstate President Trump's ban on admission of travelers from seven majority Muslim countries.

“The Ninth Circuit rightfully sided with the rule of law tonight against President Trump’s xenophobic and draconian executive order. This decision is short-term relief for many New Yorkers and thousands around the nation whose lives were upended in recent weeks. We are heartened but remain resolute to defend against all White House and Congressional proposals that do not align with our beliefs and principles, and threaten the rights of our clients.

Tonight also affirms that our judiciary can remain independent and capable of halting brazen executive overreach when New Yorkers - and the rest of the country -need our system of checks and balances the most.”
