Civil Legal Services Task Force Hearings
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2010

As we reported previously, Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman has appointed a Task Force to make recommendations for ongoing funding to address the increasing need for civil legal services in New York State. Among the Task Force members, Chief Judge Lippman has appointed Steven Banks (representing the Society), Deborah Wright (representing the UAW), and Kevin Finnegan (representing SEIU/1199).

As part of the Chief Judge's civil legal services initiative, he is conducting hearings in each of the four judicial districts in the State. The First Department hearing is the leadoff hearing and it is scheduled for September 28 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Appellate Division at Madison Avenue and 25th Street in Manhattan. Several Civil Practice clients accompanied by their lawyers will testify at the First Department hearing. The Second Department hearing is the concluding hearing and it is scheduled for October 7 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Appellate Division at 45 Monroe Place in Brooklyn.

Subject to client services needs, we encourage Society staff members to attend these important hearings.
