City Bar Panel Focuses on Professional Responsibility for Legal Services Lawyers

The Legal Aid Society is participating in a professional training session sponsored by the New York City Bar Association on Tuesday, April 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. that will focus on the professional responsibility for legal services lawyers.

Participants include: Beth Breslin, Staff Attorney, LegalHealth, New York Legal Assistance Group; Marika Dias, Director, Anti-Displacement Project, Legal Services NYC; Samar Katnani, Deputy Director, Housing Unit, Brooklyn Legal Services; Randye Retkin, Director, LegalHealth, New York Legal Assistance Group; Nakeeb Siddique, Supervising Attorney, Housing Help Program, Brooklyn Neighborhood Office; and Liliana Vaamonde, Managing Attorney, The Legal Aid Society Civil Practice. Mary Zulack, Clinical Professor of Law and Co-Director, Lawyering in the Digital Age Clinic, at Columbia School of Law, will serve as moderator.

During the session, there will be an opportunity to examine case problems and ask questions of the panelists. The training will cover three primary areas of legal services practice: limited scope representation, group representation and the unique ethical issues that come up when working with non-lawyer professionals such as social workers, case managers and physicians. The material will be suitable for new lawyers, as well as more experienced advocates whose work is affected by newer models of service.
