The Legal Aid Society's 35th Annual Awards Dinner, held May 10, 2012, at the Waldorf Astorial, was the most successful in the organization's history. Barbara Lyne and Mel Immergut received the Society's 2012 Servant of Justice Award and Duncan L. Niederauer, CEO of NYSE Euronext, received the Society's Theodore Roosevelt Award. Mr. Immergut is a Vice Chair of the Society and the Chairman of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. Ms. Immergut is a member of the Society's Advisory Board.

Barbara and Mel Immergut were honored with the Servant of Justice Award for their outstanding contributions to the Society and its clients and to the quest for equal justice. Mr. Niederauer received the Theodore Roosevelt Award for outstanding service to the community.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Society’s Civil Practice, which represents 100,000 vulnerable New Yorkers including senior citizens, children and adults with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, immigrants, low-wage workers, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless and imminently homeless children and adults. The awards dinner proceeds are crucial to enable the Society's front-line staff in all five boroughs to provide essential civil legal aid in the midst of these challenging times for the vulnerable low-income families and individuals we represent.

A photograph of the honorees appeared in today's New York Law Journal.
