Making the Legal Aid Society a beneficiary under a will is an easy and effective way to provide financial support. Because the property bequeathed may be used at the discretion of The Legal Aid Society’s trustees and administrators, we are especially grateful for unrestricted or “general support” gifts. However, gifts for specific purposes are also welcome.
When making a bequest to benefit The Society, the following language is suggested:
I, [your name], give the sum of $__ dollars OR All shares of stock which I own at my death in (name stock), or its legal successor in interest OR __ percent of the residue of my estate to the Legal Aid Society, a New York, not-for-profit corporation the principle office of which is presently located at 199 Water Street, New York, NY 10038, or its lawful successor, if such organization or its lawful successor is in existence at my death.
Contributions of life insurances policies and charitable trusts—remainder or lead—are alternatives to bequests.
Further information about these or other gift-planning options may be obtained by consulting your tax advisor or by calling The Legal Aid Society Development Department:
