April 1, 2012 - The Legal Aid Society is pleased to announce that Barbara Lyne and Mel Immergut will receive the Society's Servant of Justice Award at its 35th Annual Awards Dinner on May 10, 2012, at the Waldorf Astoria. Duncan L. Niederauer, CEO of NYSE Euronext, will receive the Society's Theodore Roosevelt Award. Cocktails are at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.
Barbara and Mel Immergut will be honored with the Servant of Justice Award for their outstanding contributions to the Society and its clients and to the quest for equal justice. Mr. Niederauer will receive the Theodore Roosevelt Award for outstanding service to the community.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Society’s Civil Practice, which represents 100,000 vulnerable New Yorkers including senior citizens, children and adults with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, immigrants, low-wage workers, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless and imminently homeless children and adults. The awards dinner proceeds are crucial to enable the Society's front-line staff in all five boroughs to provide essential civil legal aid in the midst of these challenging times for the vulnerable low-income families and individuals we represent.
