The Legal Aid Society is the nation's oldest and largest private not-for-profit organization providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in New York City. The Legal Aid Society handles more than 300,000 cases and matters annually with a staff of more than 1,450, including 850 lawyers and 600 social workers, investigators, paralegals, and support and administrative staff through a network of 25 borough, neighborhood, and courthouse offices in all five boroughs of New York City.

The Civil Practice also operates hotlines to provide additional services to low-income New Yorkers.
