High School Promotion Requirements

Grade Coursework/Exams Minimum Credits Attendance
9 Successful completion of academic classes.

 8 90%
10 Meet NYC Performance Standards in Language Arts, Math and Science as evidenced by student work, teacher observations, and assessments/grades.

 20 – including:
4 in English and/or ESL
4 in Social Studies		 90%
11 Successful completion of academic classes. 28 (30 for students who first entered grade 9 in or after the 2004-2005 school year).

 90%
12 Passing Grade in 5 Regents Exams: English, Math, Global History, US History and Science. 44 (For students entering grade 9 in or before September 2001, 40 credits are needed to graduate). 90%


Students who fail to meet high school graduation requirements may receive continued support in day, evening and summer school throughout the end of the school year in which their twenty-first birthday occurs. Students who fall behind in earning credits towards high school graduation may want to explore one of the Department of Education’s alternative schools or GED programs.
