Homeless Rights Project

The Homeless Rights Project enforces the legal rights of homeless families and individuals in all five boroughs of New York City. The Project does this through a combination of:

  • litigation on behalf of groups of clients
  • direct client representation
  • operation of a daily, toll-free hotline
  • regular outreach in emergency housing facilities

  • City-wide back-up support to all Legal Aid and Legal Services offices. City-wide litigation and advocacy on behalf of homeless families with children and homeless single adults to obtain emergency housing, public assistance benefits, special grants, and permanent housing relocation.
  • When to call: Telephone intake for homeless families with children every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. Emergencies at all other times.
