On television, justice seems easy to find. But in real life it isn’t that easy. That’s what makes The Legal Aid Society such a unique and valuable resource. Every day, more than 840 Legal Aid attorneys and 600 support staff members help thousands of indigent New Yorkers confront the most serious legal crises you can imagine, at no cost, and with remarkable success. We handle more than 30,000 civil cases each year through court based and neighborhood offices in all five boroughs. Unlike our Juvenile and Criminal Practices which are financed by government, our Civil Practice relies on private contributions.
Our attorneys are smart, savvy, and compassionate, and they’ve chosen to put their skills and convictions to work for people who need help the most. Since 1876, The Legal Aid Society has been dedicated to one simple belief: that no one should be denied access to justice because of poverty.
Will you help? Will you reach into your heart and give one more person in trouble the legal representation they need?
Your gift will enable one more person to keep their home, reclaim their dignity, access their rights, obtain health care or disability benefits, stop their deportation – and find the same kind of justice you’d want if you were in jeopardy.
Your Gift of $50, $100, $250 or More Means Everything to Someone Needing Justice
It could be a bureaucrat’s error, a landlord’s greed, a spouse’s brutality, a loan shark’s duplicity, or an employer’s exploitation.
At stake could be a home, a job, food stamps, disability benefits, physical safety, health care, or the right to keep a family together.
When there’s nowhere else to turn, Legal Aid is there – seven days a week, 365 days a year, with the best legal support that money can’t buy – but which your generosity can provide.
Few gifts can mean more. Your contribution today will enable The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice to help someone meet their most basic needs and gain access to justice. The Civil Practice is funded by private donations like yours.
And more still, because of the powerful impact of Legal Aid’s class action and precedent setting lawsuits that secure and expand the rights of domestic violence survivors, immigrants, people with disabilities, tenants, low wage workers, homeless children and adults and other vulnerable New Yorkers. Legal Aid victories will benefit more than 2 million families and individuals this year alone.
Join us. Every dollar you contribute will make a difference for someone with nowhere else to turn.
