Case Example

When Ms. G approached the Society for assistance, she had been physically and emotionally abused by the father of her two daughters. When she sought an Order of Protection to exclude him from the marital apartment, he petitioned the Family Court with falsified medical records and was awarded temporary custody of the children. At trial, Society attorneys were able to prove that the records had been falsified and that he had battered Ms. G. Because of the Society’s intervention, Ms. G’s children were returned to her, and she was granted sufficient child support to remain off public assistance.
